I came across a kinda loose theory about Snape and his mother Eileen Prince. The theory was that Madam Pince the school librarian is in fact Snape's mother! I know it sounds bizarre but if you think about it, it's quite a valid theory.
Pince and Prince are similar names for a start. Then there's the fact that Snape's mother might have been living in hiding, ie Hogwarts, which we know is the safest place. Madam Pince is given a similar description to Snape: sunken cheeks, skin like parchment and her long hooked nose illuminated unflatteringly by the lamp she was carrying...

I never thought of that... it's kinda creepy in a way, but it sorta makes sense...

It's a good theory but wouldn't it be too late to add in such a big twist towards the climax of the series? I mean, we still need to find out more important things such as if Harry or Voldemort survive, and the final decisive battle that will determine the end of the series *drumroll*

true...I don't think the names having the same letters is a reason to suspect it but the similair descriptions are odd....wouldn't he one of them show it...

The similarity in the names could be a clue...why else would Snape's mother be a theme in book six? She must be significant in some way or other.

oh yeah I agree she will defintly be signifigant but I just don't see the names as being something to back up the theory....I think she may be signifigant in a different way..but the resemblance is striking...

good theory but i've got one problem i can see with it. If she was Snape's mom, then wouldn't those two talk more. As far as we've seen in the books, they don't talk and I would think she'd talk to her own son no matter what.

true...but when he joined the Death Eaters...she could have disowned him...or not want anything to do with him? Even if he 'quit' and came to work at Hogwarts.........

well actually i think its a good theory.
But probably something JK just wrote in to see who would come up with something creative like this, it's unlikely that it will be important. At least so i think.

I don't think slimely snape's mommy is gonna have a huge part to play if any at all...i mean the book is called Harry Potter...this is about his journey and i think straying into Snapes past will take away from his journey to the final battle...she couldn't play any real significance anyway!

wow. i had totally forgot i posted here, and was thinking the exact same thing I had posted.
I believe JKR just threw it in there rather loosly to see if anyone would ask her about it, or just as a bit of candy for really obsessive fans. lol. So yes, it is a marvolous theory, i just don't think it will be revealed in the last book.
Unless.... maybe she knows more than anyone expects. What if she is the only one, now that Dumbledoor is dead, that knows that Snape is in fact a innocent. *gasp*
omg. i am so a believer in this theory now. lol.
