ah. i think my perception of draco is greatly different from that of many people, because i adore him. I think he is one of the best characters in recent fiction, hands down. I could describe why his tragic soul is theoretically perfect but that would take, well, forever.
i see you're point - and i agree. I think that he is desperately trying to act like a man, make his father proud, stay ALIVE by being his family's definition of mature and aristocratic. The fact that he is still a boy doesn't lie so much in his appearance, but his nativity and innocence. I know, i just used innocent to describe Draco Malfoy. But there is no better word for it! Why is he so different from every other boy raised by a Death Eater - why does he struggle with the responsibility Voldemort places on him when the many others who have had to prove their loyalty haven't? Because he is innocent. I think, although I might not have been prompted to if Tom Felton wasn't 21, that his age is even more icing to the cake. To his father and Voldemort he is ready for this, he should be happy to finally be old enough to be considered worthy of their respect. But he isn't, he hasn't shred the childhood. GAH. And I would say that his abuse (although i suppose this isn't 100% cannon) prevented him from growing up properly. He is just a boy, a boy faced with an adult decision. And the only reason he has is a lifelong learning that his father has brainwashed him. But it is my belief that because he is still a child, he is able to act against his father, his childish logic finally pushes him over the edge.
That was long, and kind of stupid. And pretty much was pushing the topic, but oh well.
I'll turn it around and bring it back to topic... Why can't they just make Dan's eyes GREEN!?
