yes you can use magic to protect yourself but you would have to be carful on when and where you did use the magic he muggles seen you that would be it.. but when does he turn 17yrs old in the 7th book right or 6th one of the two he would have to go and take the test first. however given the chose i think that harry himself would end up wanting to live in a muggle free environment where he wouldn't have to worry about muggles seeing magic

I don't think it will be lifted since they are already allowed to protect themselves. And I think the ministry will believe Harry if he does magic to protect hinslef this time

the restiction will be lifted, and he will move to california, USA, and become my best friends. yeah, sure. lol. in other words, i think there is no chance of it being lifted, i mean, why would he need to use magic other than protecting himself?

Yeah, i agree with Adam. I think the most important thing would to be to protect one's self... there's nothing else that's really 'necessary' to preform under-age magic anyways..besides the protection boundary.

Oops, didn't read that part:-[ there's nothing else that's really 'necessary' to preform under-age magic anyways..besides the protection boundary. THATS the part I agreed with you on, never mind the part where you said you and harry would suddenly become chums:

Uh-huh. Riight. Well the point is, the restriction won't be lifted, I mean really, in what scenario would the restriction be lifted, besides protection of oneself?

Do we know if LV is a metamorphagus (sp?) at this point? Maybe harry is one but doesn't know it and hasn't been able to develop his skill yet.....the one clue that i'm running with was the time in the first book when they talked about harry regrowing his hair back over and over again. i haven't heard of anyone else at the school doing that. maybe it's something LV left on him like parseltongue. any thoughts?
