Yes thats true. I just don't see how people keep saying Dumbledore didnt kill Voldemort because he thinks theres worse than death. Im sure the only reason Dumbledore did indeed tell Voldemort that there is worth than death is so that Voldemort will not find out that Dumbledore is in fact just bluffing when he duels him (im sure it will happen again)... this way, Dumbledore will not need to try and kill Voldemort at all so that Voldemort will not know what to do against Dumbledore..

Personally? I think Dumbledore didnt try to kill Voldemort, because he knew he couldn't. The prophecy says that only Harry has the power to defeat him, and you can't change what must be.

well i think in book 4 voldemort says sumthin bout the potion that brings him back being one of his own creations, also he mentions how becoming immortal is one thing hes tried to conquer. maybe he tried a bunch of experiments like to make himself immortal and didnt quite succed but did sumthing that worked a lil in keeping him alive but just barely? i dont no about the prophecies being broken maybe if a really powerful wizard could some how? but wat if a new prophecy is made ?

Lol, it means he had so much magic and special curses or whatever to keep him immortal than even his own death curse could not kill him. About prophecies being broken.. No they can't. Prophecies tell the future, a prophecy would not be made if it could be broken.. Because than the future it is telling us would never happen.. Think about it.

Been rereading OotP and here's a paragraph we should consider...
"You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?" called Voldemort, his scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. "Above such brutality, are you?" "We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom," Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk toward Voldemort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. "Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit--" "There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!" snarled Voldemort. "You are quite wron," said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the mtter over drinks. Harry felt scared to see him walking alon, underfended, shieldless. He wanted to cry out a warning, but his headless guard kept shunting him backward toward the wall, blocking his every attempt to get out from behind it. "Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been you greatest weakness--"
(OotP, Chapter 36, page 814)

I still don't get how it all works what with all the, uh, ''items'' we find out about in the new book. Voldemort still existed after a fashion. That seventh of him still existed. Does that mean that you really can't destroy him at all? that because his soul is split in pieces that none of the pieces can be destroyed? no? i don't know.
Whoops. I kinda gave it away anyway. oh well.

no the items can be destroyed, remember Riddle's Diary and blood spurted out, that was a piece of him...they will all have to be destroyed so that when they go for the final piece there will be nothing to bring back...nothing that keeps him here...sorry people! kind of a spoiler
