I just found an article that sort of made the hiar on the back of my neck stick up with apprehension. In it J.K. Rowling was talking about how relieved she was to have finished the book. Great. However, when we are suscpious that she will kill off our hero, and even Dan Radcliffe has a feeling she will kill of Harry (said so in an interview about movie 5), some of her words to not bode well. Do these quotes not strike fear into your heart:
[LONDON, Jul 6, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) --]
Rowling said she was "sobbing my heart out" and "downed half a bottle of champagne" in a hotel room as she neared the end of the seven-book saga, The Telegraph reported Friday.
"Actually finishing it was the most remarkable feeling I've ever had," she said. "(I felt) euphoria, devastated, when I finished one chapter near the end. I absolutely howled, it had been planned for so long."
One tidbit she revealed about the ending is that the final word won't be "scar" as previously predicted by many.
"'Scar' is quite near the end, but it's not the last word," she said.
This woman killed Sirius and Dumbledore. She says at least one main character will die in book 7. It sounds like it was more than relief that had her crying. Are Harry and Ron going to die?

I saw an interview last night in which she said all this. Apparently she did indeed get terribly upset when writing one of the later chapters. She said she felt both euphoris and devastation - euphoria because it has been such a huge part of her life for 17 years, and devastation... well, we don't know about that yet. One change she made to the ending (which was written a long time ago) is that two characters die who wouldn't have done previously. The last word is no longer 'scar', but she won't say what the new last word is as it will give away a lot. It could be 'vanished' or 'triumphed' or even 'exploded' but whatever it is, it is hugely important.

I to read thsi earlier and I don't really think she was crying because of whoever died. I think it was, like ravvie said, the books were finally done, and they had changed her life so much.

Well, in that case, it was actually the particular thing she was writing.

That sucks...i'm gonna be sooooo unhappy if one of those three die...maybe she was crying because Hagrid or someone like that died...because that is really the only adult besides the Weasleys that he considers parental....

I have to agree that she probably wasn't crying because she may have killed off a character, but that doesn't mean it wasn't part of it. Imagine actually writing Harry Potter- how connected you would be. We love the books and the story, and feel that we know the characters almost as well as we know ourselves. How must it be for her? To end it?
But-- with that being said. I am a firm believer that Harry has to die in order to kill Voldemort. But I do not believe anyone else of major importance has to die. Unless it is a different member of the Weasley family-- probably Ginny.

nooooooooo....Harry can't die...he can't have gone through all these trials and tribulations, all these narrow escapes to just DIE at the end....i mean, why build up 7 books of a character just to have him *bite the big one* when he finally gets to the end. I mean what a waste of casualities...
Then what will people call him?? "the Boy who lived but then he died"...it doesn't have a good ring to is...
To kill him would be like if you were running in a 20 mile marathon....you've thought you were gonna pass out half the time...a bird pooped on you...you accidently missed the table with the water...but you struggle on and then you see the finish line, your almost there...and then you just drop dead....does that sound like a good story?? i don't think so...
I think the battle is going to have someone like Neville who also lost his parents in a way will supply a much needed boost of love to attack Voldypants with
