I'm reading CS Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for about the tenth time hehe. Reading them I'm almost certain that JK Rowling took some inspiration from them; although the harry Potter book's are really creative and original, there's no doubt in my mind that she was influenced by some of these old and excellent fantasy/magical stories.
Anyone who hasn't read the series - read them, I'm sure you won't regret it!

Wasn't crazy about Lion, the Witch and Wardrobe. Do I need to read the other ones? Too much obvious Christian symbolism.

Well... that's kinda the point, isnt it? They ARE Christian novels, after all. Did you read the Magician's Nephew? That was the first one in the series, it's a lot better if you read them in order.

I didn't read the L,W, &W when I was a kid. I read it long after reading Harry Potter and other more complicated books....I think it just didn't measure up. Maybe if I hadn't had it as an assignment in my children's lit class. I read it after we had had the discussion about the Christian symbolism, so maybe that ruined it.
In the class, we discussed the Magician's Nephew and how some people preferred to read it first and other's didn't....that it was essential a prequel? Taking place before LWW, but written after? I don't remember now.
I will probably like the movie.

I saw a movie of the LW&W when I was little. I read it, and then the Magicain's nephew, to my little brother recently. They do not have to be read in order. I hope the new movie will be good and I agree those movies will be awesome! I didn't mind the symbolisism but i didn't notice it when I was younger. I agree they are more fun when you are littler, but they are still pretty good. I think the MN is slow paced in spots. Still, i like them alot and swould uggest them to all children.

I've read the LWW about five times. I saw the old movie ages ago, it was quite funny because it's so old-fashioned.
