Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs: Geniuses?
As we know only too well, Hermione can never resist ruling out all possibilities of Harry and Ron’s theories by reminding them of information in Hogwarts: A History. One of these such things is that Hogwarts is Unplottable (that is, impossible to plot on a map).
As we also know, the Marauders (possibly excluding Wormtail) must have been very clever to have all become unregistered Animagi before even leaving school. However, their true brilliance shone in their creation of the Marauders’ Map.
Others have at times suggested that Unplottability doesn’t refer to inside a building or area. However, the enchantments making Hogwarts Unplottable can’t be very good if students can make an incredibly detailed map of everything going on inside the walls. As Lupin mentioned in PoA, if Black (or any Death Eater) managed to get his hands on it, it could put everybody in danger.
So what I’m trying to say is that the Marauders’ Map is an amazing magical device, especially to be made by Hogwarts students. So Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs must be (or, at least, must have been at some point) geniuses to accomplish something that surely none of the Hogwarts teachers (and possibly not even Dumbledore) could ever do.
Now that we can see this, we must consider the possibility that Wormtail may be much cleverer than he lets on. And being a Death Eater, he could show his true colours and give Voldemort all the information possible (or, as he owes his life to Harry, destroy Voldemort).
But no matter how we look at it, the Marauders were most definitely very skilled students to have performed the supposedly impossible feat of creating the Map.
I hope that was OK. Please leave comments if you read it ;D
