Has anyone had any thoughts as to the representation of the statue in the ministry of magic? This is what OOTP has to say about its' description.
Halfway down the hall was a fountain. A group of golden statues, larger than life-size, stoood in the middle of a circular pool. Tallest of them all was a moble-looking wizard with his wand pointing straight up in the air. Grouped around him were a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin and a house-elf. The last three were all looking adoringly up at the witch and wizard. Glittering jets of water were flying from the ends of the two wands, the points of the centaur's arrow, the tip of the goblin's hat, and each of the house-elf's ears, so that the tinkling hiss of falling water was added . . .
and then later
He looked into the handsome wizard's face, but up close, Harry thought he looked rather weak and foolish. The witch was wearing a vapid smile like a beauty contestant, and from what Harry knew of goblins and centaurs, they were most unlikely to be caught staring this soppily at humans of any description. Only the house-elf's attitude of creeping servility looked convincing.
So this is my thought on it:
Can anyone think of a time when the people who rule and govern our country hasn't tried to sell us on the idea of a fairytale life and everyone acts a certain way and we should all behave accordingly...look at the '50's for goodness sakes and the Dursley's for that matter. They try to fit into a mold that has been presented to them as the correct and only way to live and anything that might upset that has to be hidden or thrown out. I think that statue in the MoM is their attempt at showing the wizards of their world how a proper wizard should live....perhaps it's their idea of hierarchy...wizards, then centaurs, goblins and then house elves. the nazi's ran into that problem too and look what happened to them...their society crumbled.
